These small features make the 2012 Ford Focus an absolute pleasure to drive. To add to this the headlight of the car have something truly amazing. Basically when you are driving and turn left or right, a turning headlight comes on and turns with the wheel of the car. What this does is give you clear viability around the curve and makes your drive extremely safe. Add to fog lamps to this and you have a car that also looks super impressive on the road.

The 2012 Ford Focus takes care of all of this with this super awesome feature. Let me run you though what happens in Auto Park Assist. Basically when you want to park just turn on the indicator to indicate you want to park. Assuming you want to park on the right hand side of the road, just switch on the right indicator. Then press the AUTO PARK ASSIST button. Once you do this, as you drive slowly ahead, the car scans the slots available and looks for a parking space. Once it finds a space, you get a message saying, “Pull Forward.” As soon as you are ahead of your slot, you get a message saying, “Stop. Engage the reverse gear.” Once you do this, just remove your hands from the steering wheel and the car will automatically turn the wheel. All you have to do is control the acceleration of the car. I think this is truly magical and the next best thing to valet parking.

The 2 liter engine produces a whopping 170 bhp making this an extremely zippy small car. The 2012 Ford Focus comes with a 6-speed automatic PowerShift gearbox. Over the next few days I will tell you about this POwerShift gearbox in detail.

The air conditioner in the car as well is one that will turn heads. The car comes with a climate control air conditioner. This means that you just set the temperature in the car and it automatically maintains it. In most cars in this class you would have to manually increase or decrease the heat in car. This usually involves people in the back complaining that its either too cold or two warm. This is something you will never have to worry about in the 2012 Ford Fiesta.

Since I am speaking about headlight leveling, I might as well tell you about another feature that I know some of my friends and family members will love. Very often if you are short, you find it difficult to look clearly at the road. To solve this problem, most people who are short use a pillow on the driver’s seat. The 2012 Ford Fiesta however takes this problem into consideration by providing a height adjustable seat. This is something you will not find in this class of car. Hence I keep saying, the 2012 Ford Fiesta is a small car with a whole range of big car features.

In addition to this the music system in the car is one that will keep your entertained whether it be a short drive to the shop or a long drive over the weekend.  For me the most impressive feature of the music system is the fact that there is a USB slot available as well. This enables you to plug in your USB Flash Drive full of MP3 and enjoy music of your choice at any point in time. You can also connect your iPod or MP3 player to the car music system via the AUX IN input.

Yesterday I spoke about some of the safety features on board the 2012 Ford Fiesta. Another feature that caught my attention this morning while I was changing lanes on Sheikh Zayed Road was the integrated Blind Spot Mirror. This car comes equipped with a Blind Spot Mirror which elegantly is fused into the side view mirrors eliminating the constant need to run shoulder checks while changing lanes.

Today I thought I’d tell you about some of the safety features on board this car. The 2012 Ford Fiesta comes with an advanced Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The car is also equipped with some Accident Avoidance Features that keeps you safe in adverse circumstances. One of these features is the Emergency Brake Lighting System. Basically when you are driving and all of a sudden you notice an hazard and slam your brakes, the car automatically switches on the hazard lights. This eliminates the need to do so manually and helps the driver concentrate on the road completely.

The 2012 Ford Fiesta also comes with 5 airbags; a driver and passenger airbag, two side seat mounted airbags and one knee airbag for the driver.

To get started I thought I would quickly introduce you to the car we are driving right now. The 2012 Ford Fiesta has a 1.4L Duratec Engine with 4 cylinders. It is a small car but is zippy on the road. The car has a 4-speed Durashift Gearbox that enables you to drive the car in both automatic and manual gear mode. This is a feature I love quite a bit since it allows you to overtake slower cars without any acceleration lag. Usually when you have an automatic gear system you need to wait for a while before the car will give you the additional acceleration to overtake someone, however with the manual gear option, you just choose when you need to change gears and overtake.

Over the next few days I will share with you some of the interesting features I have noticed in this car; features that are usually only seen in big cars.

The boot of this SUV also has an innovative cargo management system. This enables you to divide spaces efficiently and travel with ease. The 2012 Ford Expedition has 6 airbags, 2 in the front, 2 in the side mounted on the seats and two safety canopy airbags. The range of safety features on this car give it a 5 star safety rating.



This is something you do not see in the third row of most SUV’s. In addition to this, the third row of seats also have A/C vents so that they can enjoy the powerful climate control A/C.

The second row of seats has an additional innovation that parents with little kids will love. The center seat in the second row slides forward. This enables you to put a child seat on this seat and bring the child closer to yourself to better monitor them.

While driving as well there are innovations that make this a wonderful vehicle to drive. The side mirrors have integrated blind spot mirrors in them. This means that you do not need to keep running a shoulder check while driving. All you have to do to know if you have someone in your blind spot is to check the side view mirrors.

Over the next few days we will be covering some more interesting features in the 2012 Ford Expedition including how you can fit not just your family but your while extended family in it as well.

The quite and smooth ride is primarily possible because of the 4-wheel independent suspension. This reduces road vibrations and reduces the sound inside the cabin. In addition to this the front windscreen is made of acoustic laminated glass. This is basically two pieces of glasses put together which greatly reduces the sound of the wind hitting the windscreen from entering the cabin.  The side mirrors in the 2012 Ford Expedition have also been redesigned. They now deflect the wind away from the car and hence reduce the noise that eventually could have entered the cabin.

And finally this SUV has something called Quiet Steel installed strategically between the engine and the cabin so that the noise from the engine will be muted before it comes into the cabin. Quiet Steel is a type of steel that does not make the same clanging sound that steel normally makes. When you put all these things together what you have is a calm and peaceful cabin to sit in while you drive the beast that is the 2012 Ford Expedition.

Over the next few days we will be sharing our experiences with the 2012 Ford Expedition, covering various aspects of the SUV including how it is so quiet as a vehicle in spite of the fact that it is actually a beast on the road.

Now if you’re like me and usually finish work late in the evening when it’s usually pretty dark and if like me you have to walk your way blindly towards the driver’s seat, then this courtesy light is a real blessing!

Since it’s a light that’s underneath the side mirrors, it actually lights up the way to your side of the door and allows you to see clearly (also great if you very often start walking to the wrong car in a full parking lot!)

When you open the doors the 1st thing that strikes you is how luxurious the fittings are and also how much space the car has. It’s roomy WITH great interiors – posh and zippy at the same time.

On the outside the car has a ‘chrome beltline’ that runs across the side of the car making it look even more regal. The rear spoiler adds to the style but also improves fuel efficiency and stability!

How you ask?? It’s pure genius really. The rear spoiler deflects the air that hits the car upwards – making it swift and quiet at the same time. Hence less fuel is consumed while driving.

Now, even if you do lock your keys inside the car, you can punch in the code you have saved, on the keypad and unlock not only ALL the doors of the car, but also the boot.

Another super cool feature is the ‘voice-activated’ communication system in the car, called SYNC.
The music system is voice activated which means you can select songs by voice control. Just say out loud the name of the song/genre/ artiste and the system selects the song without you having to move a finger off the wheel.

And in terms of entertainment, that’s not all. The 2011 Lincoln Navigator also has 3 dvd players and screens (one in front and 2 head rest mounted at the back). Each screen can be viewed and operated individually with cordless headphones!

All of this makes the Lincoln Navigator and amazing AND entertaining ride for the entire family!

Like I mentioned earlier, it’s the perfect vehicle for big families. And since mine is in town, they’ve been enjoying the comforts of the enormous space the car offers.

There are 3 rows of comfy seats! The front row leather seats are 10-way adjustable and individually cooled or heated (which is what I’m using more these days J). Now check this out – the 2^nd row of seats are reclining which makes long drives verrry comfortable for rear passengers.

Now since the bacha party usually gets stuffed in the 3^rd row, they no longer have reason to complain about being squished as the leg room for the 3^rd row passengers is amazing. And the windows of the 3^rd (last) row of seats also open making the drive even more enjoyable for them especially in this weather!

What’s more, the 2^nd row of seats has ‘centre-slide’ which means the middle seat can be moved forward, closer to the front row, making it easy for mom’s to take care of their little ones (or scold them as the case may be) who can be strapped to special hooks provided for car seats etc.

Finally the ‘self leveling’ rear air suspension, makes sure the ride for the passengers on the 2^nd and 3^rd rows, is smooth and never bumpy .

Since Rohit is on vacation (heh heh heh) I have the new car all to MYSELF and it’s the perfect car for a large family. Mine has just come down from India and I can fit them all COMFORTABLY into this spacious vehicle. Let me take you through  the specs first-

The 2011 Lincoln Navigator has a 5.4 liter V8 engine. And the thing to remember about this car (and a HUGE USP) is that it’s a workhorse for pulling boats, yachts, quad bikes etc. goes without saying then that the TORQUE (i.e. pulling power) is enormous. It’s towing capacity is around 4000 kilograms!!! That’s 4 tonnes or 8,700 pounds!!!

So whether it’s a huge family (3 comfy rows of adjustable seats) or huge equipment you need to lug around. The 2011 Lincoln Navigator is the perfect car for you.

In Top Drive Season 2 with Al Tayer Motors and Ford, we have been giving you the chance to enter the contest to drive the 2012 Ford Flex for one entire week as though it is your own. We are now so excited to reveal the name of the winner…and its VISHAL. Over the weekend we met Vishal and handed over the car to him and gave him a quick run though of all the features of the car. Over the next few days we will catch up with him and hear from him firsthand what he things of the Ford Flex. The 2012 Ford Flex is quite a green car. It comes with a 6 Speed Automatic Transmission which  improves Fuel Economy without compromising performance. The car can also be driven in manual mode and comes with paddle shift gears.

Talking about performance, the 2012 Ford Flex that I am currently driving comes with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine. The EcoBoost technology is quite fascinating. What it basically does is recycle some of the wasted energy from the exhaust to add more power to the car. The net result is that you get close to 100 bhp more with this technology. The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine produces 355 bhp at 5700 rpm…that is POWER!!!

The 2012 Ford Flex is a Cross Over Vehicle that offers a very high level of Comfort and Convenience. One of these many innovations is the Power Tailgate. This is something I(Rohit) have honestly got quite addicted to. It is quite a convenient feature. When you want to open the tailgate to put stuff into the rear of the car, you just click the button on the remote control and the tailgate opens using hydraulics. Once you are done, just press another button and it closes. This simple feature makes shopping with big bags so much easier. 

The Ford Flex comes with lots of space. There are three rows of seats in the car. The last row of seats can be folded flat to create more storage space. In addition to this all the passenger seats including the ones in the first row and second can fold flat giving you more than 10 feet of storage space. The best thing about this is the fact that you can press a button and the seats fold flat. The car can carry up to 8 people quite comfortably. In fact the second and third row passengers will never complain of lack of leg room. What is also quite convenient is the access to the 3rd row of seats. To access the row, you simply press a button and one of the second row seats folds automatically to give you easy access.

The 2012 Ford Flex also comes equipped with Ford AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. This is perhaps one of the best safety features I(Rohit) love about this car. Let me explain AdvanceTrac in simple English. Let’s assume you are driving from Abu Dhabi back to Dubai at about 120kmph. All of a sudden you turn your steering wheel at a very high speed. Now this is not something you would have normally done. The only reason you would have done something like this is because you would probably be trying to avoid an accident. At this point in time the Ford AdvanceTrac kicks in and takes over partial control of the car and adjusts your engine speed and controls the braking of the car to ensure that you exit that situation safely.

I did mention that this car also has Roll Stability Control along with AdvanceTrac. If you have ever driven an SUV you will know how important this really is. Have you ever taken a turn at a very high speed and felt like your car will roll over? Roll Stability Control is meant to prevent situations just like that. In simple terms, it is the job of the Roll Stability Control to always ensure that all four wheels of the car are always on the ground. Simple. What’s awesome is that it actually works.

What is amazing about all of this is the fact that while you are driving you can concentrate on the road 100% and control the music system using Voice Recognition.  The voice activation feature is quite funky…you can select an Mp3 from your playlist to play or even make a phone call on the go. While all of this is quite cool, the Bluetooth Sync blew my mind. Let me tell you what happened the other day when I was out with some friends in the 2012 Ford Flex…one of my friends wanted to listen to, “Why This Kalaveri Di?” The problem however was that I did not have the song in the car and so my friend decided to look for it on my iPhone. We soon found the song and were playing it on Youtube. The awesome part however was that, we were able to get the audio from the iPhone to play directly on the Ford Flex’s music system…It was awesome!

The 2012 Ford Flex also comes with Navigation. The maps can be updated from Time to Time so you don’t have to get lost in Dubai whenever a new route dissects an old one. All this happens on the 8 inch touch screen display. This display is something you can really get used to. It has actually become the focal point of my parking experience as well because it is also the display screen for the rear reversing camera. Once you use these features in the car you wonder how you ever got by without them.
The 2012 Ford Flex makes long journeys quite pleasurable not just for the driver but also for the passengers sitting in the back seats. The head rest of the front seats have two LCD screens with inbuilt DVD players. This means that the passengers sitting in the back seats can individually watch different movies using their wireless headsets while you listen to the radio in the car simultaneously.

This Season we thought we should take this to the next level giving our listeners the opportunity to experience these cars first hand for a good length of time. In Top Drive Season 2, for the first week, Tia and I will drive a new car and share our personal experiences about the car and in the second week, we give one lucky winner the chance to drive the car for an entire week as though it is his or her own car. This has never been done before in the UAE wherein you get to put a car to the test in what we would call, ‘A Real Life Situation.’ In addition to this we also have all our exciting monthly events were do everything from drive around the Emirates to off-road in the desert in the Al Tayer Motors and Ford vehicles.

On Bend It Like City, 9 homemakers and their families join Karishma to make their radio debuts! SECRET CHILDHOOD AMBITION-TOO-EMBARRASSING-TO-ADMIT: As a child I always wanted to become a fighter pilot. Later however I heard that you needed to be good at physics and maths to get in…Post that I decided I wanted to start a chain of hair dressing shops. This ambition lasted for about a month when I dreamed up my master plan to conquer the business world. I wanted to start a chain of fake tuition classes for kids just like me who could not get out of the house easily without permission but would be encouraged to go for tuition classes. The class would ‘LOOK’ like a normal tuition class when parents dropped their kids off but right after that, kids were free to head out to do any masti they wanted.

WANTED TO MARRY: After watching Yes Boss, I wanted to marry Juhi Chawla. That dream was shattered with the release of Kismat Konnection.

It was grade 12. They were both 17 year olds at a pretty insane party. Although their exams were about to begin, they managed to spend this time out with friends and thats when they met each other for the first time.

She says: He was being super possesive from the time he saw me and he was shooing away all the other guys as though they were a threat to him.

He says: I had told my best friend then that Khushbu was the girl I would marry someday.

What happened then?
The next time we met was among friends again and Khushbu getting her slam book filled by them. Her book went from one hand to the next but when it came to Lalit, he made sure that where Khushbu’s name was mentioned as a crush, it was struck off. Soon enough, there was no hiding it. Around the corner was the proposal. I agreed and now 5 years later, here we are all set to get engaged on Valentine’s Day.

She Says: We first met through a common friend for barely 5mins and didn’t see each other again for 1 whole year! A year later, we met again through the same friend. Deepti needed help with her driving license application and Niky offered to do all he could.

Then What Happened?

Both these Librans found alot of similarities but were yet to find the right balance between what they really felt for each other and what they said they felt.Soon they were in love, headlong and ready for an exciting journey. How they Met:

She says: We knew each other and were good friends for about 2 years before we starting dating. As college friends, we used to study together, do assignments together, bunk lectures together..when finally one day Jeetu asked me out while driving me back home after a lecture.

How they told their parents:
He says: I told my parents that I’d met someone special at University and wanted to introduce Janoo to them. We decided to introduce our parents to each other at our graduation ceremony. On that day, much to our disbelief, we discovered that our fathers were friends!
 
She says: My Dad wanted to meet Jeetu. So I called him home for dinner and his honesty and simplicity won my dad’s heart in no time. Our Mums decided to bring the families together and meet up over tea. And it was smooth sailing from there on.
 
The Proposal:
She says: Jeetu knew that I had always dreamt of a filmy proposal. So he arranged a scavenger hunt at my house – with my mom’s and brother’s help, he had hidden clues all over my house and when I found the last one, it said “Meet me at the wonderful land of fishes that rests on a manmade marvel.” Instantly, I knew it was the Atlantis. But I still didn’t know what he had in store for me there. When I reached, I saw him waiting alongside a helicopter that he had booked. During the helicopter tour, when we were on top of the world islands, he proposed to me and said “We are over the world islands at the moment but please make me really feel on the top of the world by saying that you will marry me.” My joy knew no bounds and I managed to say Yes, amidst my giggles. This was a much better proposal that I had always dreamt of. I feel so lucky knowing that Jeetu is not only the love of my life…but also my best friend.
 
Its all been one happy journey until now, but will they be smiling all the way to Maldives? Stay tuned to find out.

How he proposed: On the day I was going to propose to Nisha, she gave me a gift that her close friend wanted me to have! That upset me and my plans completely. So, I pushed my plans ahead by 2 days. Then on 20th April, I asked her to meet me and before my plans could get derailed, I proposed with a ring and a heart pendant and asked her out.

What was the toughest part: Nisha had strict deadlines and restrictions to adhere to. That meant that we could only meet in college. For 7 years, we never met for a New Years’ celebration, neither Valentine’s or anything even remotely romantic. Finally, we got engaged in November last year and cant believe its already been 10 years since we met.

When’s the date? Our happy day is 8th September this year. We are really glad that through all the ups and downs, we’ve made it.

How they met: Here’s another couple that’s went to school together, heck even to the same nursery! But their relationship began only when Sami realized that Mathematics was multiplying his woes exponentially and only Aisha could help. The gentleman that he was, he paid her back by driving her to and from college every day.

All the right signs: Sami passed Algebra but continued driving Aisha to college. Soon, evening chaii became lovely chaii dates… so simple yet so meaningful! Their relationship has only bloomed since then! Its been 8 years now and Aisha and Sami are ready to take the leap. They got engaged in August last year, and can’t wait to tie the knot this year.

The Proposal:

Aisha thought she started her birthday just as any other, only to be surprised. When she got into her car, she found a bouquet of roses, one of those massive greeting cards and a cuddly teddy bear. Sami had written messages all over the teddy bear, and after reading them Aisha realised that the ink from the messages had stained her hands and clothes.  She rushed up to change and drove to work thinking what a loving guy Sami was. Later that day, Sami asked Aisha to read if she had hugged the teddy bear. Aisha didn’t quite get what Sami meant. And so, he took the bear, unzipped the battery pack and produced this beautiful box with a ring inside it!  Aisha was smiling from ear to ear, and at the same time had tears in her eyes too!

How they met: They lived very different lives separated by the mountains of Europe, the beauties of Asia and the jungles of Africa. The two finally met while working at the same company in the US. It was four years ago in Houston, Texas, after graduating from business school. Common friends introduced Harsh and Zuzana but they didn’t get off to a great start. Harsh was the life of the party while Zuzana was more reserved… But soon enough, they found a comfort zone with each other that was full of excitement, surprises, learning and compromise.

Their first date: On our first date we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant, after which we went to the movies but ended up choosing an awful movie and could not watch it for longer than 15 minutes even if someone paid us to! We snuck into another movie just to find it as horrible. Neither was the third one a charmer! But throughout, we never once stopped talking and laughing. And its pretty much been like that ever since.

Getting to know each other’s cultures: After meeting in America, we enjoyed our time together tremendously. We tried skydiving and white water rafting. But the most enjoyable thing was learning about each other’s cultures. Harsh introduced Zuzana to Indian food (vada pao, pani puri, etc) and found out she could handle spicy food better than Harsh! He took her for her first Bollywood movie, Om Shanti Om, and now is paying the price for it as she drags him to watch almost every new movie that comes out! Harsh learned a few essential words in Hungarian to be able to communicate with Zuzana’s parents on a basic ‘Hi-how-are-you-I’m-good-thank-you’ level. By March 2010, Harsh formally asked his parents for their blessings to marry Zuzana and the answer was yes! Now these cross country lovebirds cant wait for their big day! But will they make it?? What she thought when she first met him: When I first met him, his friendly demeanor charmed me. We found that we were quite comfortable in each other’s space since the beginning. We’ve been great friends for 3 whole years and I think that’s what we are even today. Of course, with a whole lot of love added to the tale.
What he likes about her: I love that she’s such a nice person but what I adore about her is her sense of humour and the fact that she makes always finds the nicest things to say about other people. Also, Imy family is completely in love with her.
What she likes about him: They say opposites attract and he’s a happy soul who balances my mood swings. I was very nervous last year when he’d come to attend my brother’s wedding, but he gelled really well with all my people. I like that he takes care of me and I trust him a lot. If all that’s not enough, he also has the cutest dimples in the whole world!

She says: I think we fell in love long before we realized it. He was really shy and although I’d catch him stealing glances time and again, our conversations always remained friendly. After school, we drifted. I came to Dubai and couldn’t keep in touch with many of my friends. But Shiolim’s role in my life felt incomplete. As fate would have it we met 10 years later on a social networking site. And this time to my surprise, he made the first move. A friend request in my account soon transformed into a date. And that was it; our first date, our first movie, he proposed and I said, “Yes!” I knew it was meant to be.

Meet the Parents:
He says: Our parents knew each other, so when we told them of our plans to get married, they gave us their blessings and believe that we’re perfect for each other.
 
What’s her dream wedding like:
I believe in fairytales though people warned me that there are no real Prince Charmings. But just when I was about to give up, I found the man who treats me like a princess. My dream wedding would be a fairytale themed wedding.

How they met: We were neighbours back in Mumbai. We got along really well as friends and eventually love struck us. That was more than 10 years ago, and both of us were unsure if our love was for ‘forever and a day’. Thankfully we’ve survived the years, 5 of which were spent in long distance. It was only 3 years ago that I came to Dubai and we finally starting spending more time with each other. You’ve got to trust us on this… long distance relationships really do work!

Who’s the first to make-up when they fight?

She says: There’s no happily ever after without a fight everyday. At least that’s how it is with us. But I do love him for letting me get away everytime. He makes me feel really special every time he makes-up. I have to mention that both our parents also married friends who they grew up with. So fortunately for us, we didn’t have any trouble getting them to agree. They know we’re only repeating history!

Why did they choose 28th Dec. 2011 to take vows on?
Her birthday’s on 10th Aug and his is on 28th April, which sums up to no.1. Now since they both are No. 1’s they’d like the most important day of their lives to also be No.1.

How they met:
She says: We met 5 years ago when I was a trainee at a hotel in Bangalore, and he was  had been working there for about a couple of months.
It was an unusual first conversation when one day I had to make an urgent call and didnt have enough coins for it. Harish was right behind me and said the two words that were the answer to my prayers. He asked, “Chiler chahiye???” and from his pocket came a handful of one rupee coins… LOL! It still make me smile when I think of that day.

How their parents reacted:
She says: I got back from training and my mom knew that I had met someone because all that I spoke about for weeks was “Harish this and Harish that”!!!!J

He says:  My dad’s an army man, so you can imagine how tough it was on me to talk to him about this decision. One day Renuka suggested it was about time to put our parents in the loop. 3 days later, she wondered how if I’d ‘had the talk’. I hadn’t and she didn’t know.

Renu went ahead and gave my dad a call saying, “Uncle ji Namaste, my name is Renuka and I work in Dubai and I’m in a relationship with your son, aap ko tho pata hi hoga??” Ehhh… and mere dad ko us waqt sab pata chal gaya. He was impressed by her boldness and my choice.

Harish and Renuka are tying the knot on 20/11/11 and they say that’s because its always been a fantastic month for them.
November 27th 2005: Their first date.
November 15th 2007:  Their first trip.

Novemeber 2010: When their families met and set an engagement date.
We hope November 2011 gives them even more reason to celebrate.
