Global port operator DP World announced £1 million grant to support the work of two finalists of the Prince William's Earthshot Award for outstanding environmental innovations.
The announcement was made during Prince William’s visit to the Earthshot Prize Innovation Showcase at the DP World Pavilion at Expo 2020.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said the funds will be split between Bahamas-based Coral Vita and Australia-based Living Seawalls.
Prince William highlighted that the "Earthshot mission is more than just a prize. It’s a global team effort to spark urgent optimism and game-changing innovation to transform our future."
"We all understand the importance of protecting our planet," Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem added. "With 90 per cent of global cargo traveling by sea, it is not surprising that protecting the ocean is very close to our hearts."
Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, who joined the event via video call, said, "Every sector has a role to play public, private, philanthropic. And the bottom line could not be clearer: If we work together, everybody wins."
