The Dubai Chamber of Commerce has called on businesses to take advantage of its mediation service to settle trade disputes quickly and amicably.

During the first half of 2023, the Chamber received 75 mediation cases, valued at more than AED 42 million.

Thirty-five of these were mutually settled, and had a total value of AED 20.8 million.

The food sector accounted for 28 per cent of the total cases, followed by construction (22 per cent) and shipping services (15 per cent).

The mediation service brings rival parties together and helps them resolve their disputes without costly and time-consuming legal action.

"Our mediation services represent an essential tool that enhances the competitiveness of the local business environment and the ability of companies to overcome a wide range of challenges. The business community's use of these services reflects the level of awareness on the importance of settling disputes amicably to serve the interests of all parties," said Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers.

He added that independent mediators play an impartial role and ensure that conflicting parties are assisted in identifying the issues at the heart of their disputes.

Once the facts have been established, the mediator works to build bridges of communication and achieve a mutually agreeable settlement that protects the interests of both parties.

As representatives of Dubai Chamber of Commerce, mediators are not authorised to adjudicate disputes. Their role is to serve as facilitators.
