What to expect at Apple's Wonderlust event

Apple's upcoming Wonderlust event is expected to reveal the latest range of iPhones – the 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

Each are believed to be shifting to USB-C ports, and there's major camera and material upgrades for the premium models.

Apple's highly anticipated launch event, which takes place at 9:00 pm UAE time, is set to announce a number of changes to its products, including major tweaks to its premium iPhones.

Here’s what to expect:

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models are thought to be very similar to the iPhone 14 Pro, except without the telephoto camera and stainless steel body. The 15 and 15 Plus are expected to have a 48-megapixel camera and A16 chip – the same as the 14 Pro. They will also have the Dynamic Island cutout - that's the little black notch at the top of your screen - similar to the 14 Pro and Pro Max.

All 15 models will support 15-watt wireless charging using Qi2 open standard. This means reduced wireless charging times and improved energy and efficiency. Qi2 is set to become the standard for wireless charging, and will extend to other devices, such as headsets.

The new iPhones will all be adopting USB-C charging ports – largely due to the EU legislation which has made USB-C the common standard – this replaces the current Lighting port, which has been on iPhones since the model 5 was released in 2012.

The Pro Max is the most exciting offering in the iPhone range and could get an impressive 6x optical telephoto camera and a horizontal periscope lens, like those seen on the Pixel 7 Pro, Galaxy S23 Ultra and Sony Xperia 1 V. This would double the zoom from 3x to 6x allowing users to capture close-up pictures in finer detail.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models are likely to get a new A17 chip with a 3-nanometer processor, and should weigh 18-19 grams less than the respective 14 models.

Other rumours include changes to the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max’s power buttons, which could be touch-sensitive. The Pro versions could have a new titanium design making them more durable and sleek than ever.

Apple Watches

The iPhone 15 isn’t the only launch expected tonight with the new Series 9 Apple Watch set to be unveiled.

The Series 9 is thought to be powered by a new S9 chip, giving it an improved battery life. Other than that it’s likely to remain similar to the Series 8 – although it may come in a new colour, with pink being the rumour.

The Apple Watch Ultra may also get an upgrade – again, a faster chip and a new colour are the only expected changes.

AirPods

Apple AirPods may also be included in the Wonderlust launch, with USB-C charging being the main difference from previous iterations. Otherwise, the earbuds should remain largely the same with no major shifts or upgrades in hardware or features.
