4 killed in targeted attacks on Saudi Arabia's airport, oilfield

Attacks on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Aramco's Shaybah oilfield have left four civilians dead, Saudi authorities reported on Thursday.

The attack on the airport, carried out on Wednesday evening, killed a Saudi citizen and an Indian national, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation reported. Another eight civilians were wounded in the attack, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The attack also caused property damage, the extent of which is currently being assessed, the authority said, adding that more updates will be provided later.

Airport operations have since resumed and air traffic returned to normal, the authority added.

Meanwhile, two people were killed after Saudi air defences intercepted a drone that was attempting to hit a facility at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oilfield on Wednesday, the energy ministry said.

The incident caused a vehicle fire outside the facility's perimeter but did not affect operations at the field, the ministry said, citing an official source.

"The attempted attack resulted in the deaths of two residents, one Filipino and one Nepali, and injuries to two residents, one Pakistani and one Indian, due to falling debris following the interception," the ministry said.

Four drones were also intercepted by Yemen's Saudi-led coalition on Tuesday in the eastern region of the Kingdom.

The incidents come amid an escalation of strikes by Houthis on Saudi Arabia since early October, with its airports and civilian infrastructure targeted.
