A railway worker in the Indian city of Mumbai has been praised for going beyond the call of duty to save a child's life.

The footage of the dramatic rescue, captured on CCTV, shows pointsman Mayur Shelkhe race towards a speeding train to save a child who had fallen onto the tracks.

He is seen picking up the boy and jumping onto the platform just seconds before the train enters the station.

Local media reported that the woman, who was walking alongside the child, was blind and unable to help him.

India's Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal also took to Twitter to share the footage and praise Shelkhe for his "exceptionally courageous act".
