It has been five years since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The plane went missing en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014, triggering one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history.

Despite extensive searches of the Indian Ocean- one of them lasting two years- the Boeing 777 and 239 people on board have never been found.

However, some debris confirmed to be from the jet was found washed ashore, while search efforts ended last year.

Malaysia's government insists it is open to proposals to resume the search.
