As Typhoon Faxai powered towards Japan with destructive winds of up to 216 kph, trains and flights in the island nation have been cancelled as a precaution.
Around 50 bullet train services between Tokyo and Osaka and around 20 flights to and from Tokyo's two airports have been impacted, with authorities warning of additional delays and destination changes.
ANA Holdings also announced the cancellation of all flights on Sunday to Hachijojima, adding that some flights to and from Tokyo may be delayed or cancelled on Sunday and Monday.
Authorities also warned of high waves, landslides and flooding, with the Met department forecasting "record-breaking winds in the capital and other regions".
Faxai is set to dump as much as 300 millimetres of rain in the next 24 hours.
