Twenty people, including 12 soldiers and eight civilians, were killed in an armed attack on a patrol and two villages in Plateau State, central Nigeria.
The attackers also stole livestock and looted property, as part of a series of attacks carried out by gangs that kidnap and rob in the region, further exacerbating the suffering of rural communities.
This comes 24 hours after the Nigerian Army neutralised 18 terrorists and arrested 37 suspects in a significant operation.
The troops recovered several weapons and logistics items during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted nationwide, also leading to the rescue of 9 kidnapped victims.
