In a crackdown on reckless driving, Dubai Police have impounded 176 vehicles and issued 251 fines in the last three months due to dangerous behaviour such as performing stunts and creating disturbances in residential areas.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said that the police launched a targeted traffic campaign from July to September.
He added that officers observed reckless drivers across the emirate, with some deliberately creating chaos to film their antics for social media fame.
Many violations involved actions such as hanging out of windows or even riding on the roofs of moving vehicles. Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, the fine for reclaiming an impounded vehicle is AED 50,000, which may lead to permanent confiscation.
Maj. Gen. Al Mazrouei pointed out that the majority of violators identified were tourists. "This included 80 violations by Asian nationals, 29 by Europeans, 40 by Emiratis, and 7 by African nationals, with the remaining 95 involving individuals from other nationalities," he explained.
The official urged the public to report any reckless behaviour through the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling 901.
