Abu Dhabi will step up efforts to cover the high-cost of chronic disease treatments for those in need under the newly launched Life Endowment campaign.
The funds collected will also provide essential medications and mental health support for the patients.
Established by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the campaign is part of a larger Healthcare Endowment, launched by the Endowments and Minors Funds Authority (Awqaf Abu Dhabi) and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi in May 2024 at a value of AED1 billion.
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi will be tasked to ensure that contributions reach those who need it most.
The funds will be raised through the Emirates Red Crescent Authority and the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma’an. It will be invested to maximise the endowment returns, which will be directed to healthcare programmes and promote public health.
The "collective community support can significantly ease the financial burden on underprivileged patients and offer them hope for treatment and recovery," highlighted Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of Emirates Red Crescent.
Fahad Abdulqader Al Qassim, Director General of Awqaf Abu Dhabi, said the campaign will play a crucial role in providing quality healthcare for those unable to afford treatment costs, noting that it aligns with the UAE's 'Year of Community'.
