An elderly woman, who had arrived in the UAE by "mistake", was able to return to her home country after the Ajman Police stepped in to help.
Officers said the 68-year-old was duped by a travel agent in her home country into believing she was travelling to a neighbouring Arab country instead.
The woman, who was trying to visit her son, sensed something amiss when she was unable to contact him from the airport.
She then approached the police after realising she was in the wrong country.
The woman was offered a place to stay while the officers looked into her complaint.
They reached her son in her home country, who explained that his mother was indeed travelling to meet his brother and blamed the travel company for the mix-up.
Officers at the Al Hamidiyah Comprehensive Police Station took four days to finalise her return after completing all necessary travel requirements.
They even drove her to the airport and remained in touch with her son until she reached her home safely.
The woman and her family expressed their deep gratitude for the Ajman Police's timely intervention.
