DP World and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have delivered 5,000 metric tonnes of rice to support humanitarian operations in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
The rice was shipped from DP World’s Mundra Terminal in India to the Port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, through DP World’s Shipping Solutions business.
From Tanzania, WFP transported the supplies overland to communities facing severe food insecurity.
The aid comes as humanitarian needs continue to rise across the region.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than 27 million people are facing acute food insecurity, driven largely by conflict and displacement.
Burundi is also facing growing pressure following the arrival of families fleeing insecurity in eastern DRC, while Rwanda continues to support refugees and asylum seekers from neighbouring countries.
The deliveries will support emergency food assistance and provide enough food to reach more than 14,200 additional people for one month.
The latest shipments are part of a broader partnership between DP World and WFP, launched in 2025, to strengthen humanitarian supply chains and improve the delivery of essential supplies to communities in need.
Through its Shipping Solutions network, DP World is providing logistics support to help WFP move aid more efficiently and reach vulnerable communities faster.
The partnership highlights how global logistics networks can be used to support humanitarian operations and strengthen supply chains at a time when needs are increasing and funding remains under pressure.
By combining DP World’s logistics capabilities with WFP’s humanitarian expertise, the two organisations are helping deliver vital food assistance more efficiently and at greater scale.
