The UAE's Ministry of Defence has announced that two of its national oil tankers have been targeted by Iranian missiles in the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz, killing one crew member and injuring eight others.
The tankers, 'Mombasa' and 'Al Bahiyah', were targeted within Omani territorial waters while transiting the southern lane of the Strait.
The attack caused material damage to both tankers due to fires that broke out on board, with the fires since brought under control, the ministry noted.
The ministry also added that six of the eight injured have sustained serious injuries.

The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned this attack, describing it as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirms the importance of freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial vessels or the obstruction of international maritime routes.
In a statement, it emphasised that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail constitute acts of piracy and poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.
The UAE also called on Iran to halt these unprovoked attacks and ensure the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait.
The ministry also offered its sincere condolences to the family of the Indian national killed in the attack, and wished for a speedy recovery for the six Indians and two Ukrainians injured in the incident.
