Sharjah Police have busted a seven-member gang that tried to promote drugs through employees of delivery companies.
The suspects took advantage of delivery riders with limited income and exploited the nature of their work to distribute narcotics.
According to the anti-narcotics department, they tried to sell 7,604 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, 494 grammes of cannabis and 297 narcotic rolls.
Following a tipoff, the authority closely monitored the gang's operations in coordination with anti-narcotic agencies in the neighbouring emirates.
They were nabbed within 12 hours of the investigation and later transferred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures.
Sharjah Police have called on community members, especially parents to be vigilant and cooperate with the authorities to combat drug-related crimes.
The have urged the public to report any suspicious behaviour by calling 901 or via e-mail (dea@shjpolice.gov.ae).
