Australian Open: Daniil Medvedev into third round

Fourth seed Daniil Medvedev has advanced to the third round of the Australian Open.

He secured a straight-set win over Spanish qualifier Pedro Martinez in just over two hours on Margaret Court Arena despite a brief medical timeout for nose bleed. 

Medvedev will face Jaume Munar or Alexei Popyrin in the last 32.

Meanwhile, Britain's Heather Watson suffered a straight-set defeat by Belgium's 16th seed Elise Mertens.

She lost 6-3 6-0 in just 56 minutes.
