Holders FC Barcelona were held 1-1 at Roma, after Alessandro Florenzi’s 60-yard wonder strike cancelled out Luis Suarez’s opener. In Group E's other game, Bayer Leverkusen romped to a 4-1 home victory over BATE. In Group F, Bayern Munich won 3-0 at Olympiakos, thanks to a Thomas Muller double and a strike by Mario Gotze, whilst Arsenal suffered a surprise defeat away at Dinamo Zagreb – they went down 2-1, with Olivier Giroud seeing red after 40 minutes following two bookable offences. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half after an own goal from Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain. Fernandes then doubled their lead on the hour mark, before Theo Walcott pulled a goal back for the Gunners. Chelsea beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in their Group G, with Willian, Oscar (pen) Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas getting on the scoresheet, whilst Dynamo Kiev and Porto fought out a 2-2 draw. Elsewhere, Zenit St Petersburg claimed an exciting 3-2 victory at Valencia in their Group H opener, with Gent holding Lyon to a 1-1 draw.
