EPL round-up: Leicester shock Man City to extend lead

Robert Huth (4th R) of Leicester City scores his team's third goal at the Etihad Stadium

Leicester City increased their advantage at the top of the English Premier League to five points, after a stunning 3-1 win at Manchester City. The Foxes raced into an early lead thanks to Robert Huth’s 3rd minute goal. The defender would find the back of the net again on the hour-mark, but not before a thumping Riyad Mahrez strike early in the second half. Sergio Aguero scored a late consolation for the hosts, but Leicester comfortably held on for a deserved victory. Spurs took advantage of that result to move into second place in the table after defeating Watford at White Hart Lane. Kieran Trippier got the game’s only goal on 63 minutes, finishing at close range after ghosting in at the back post. Elsewhere, there was trouble for Liverpool both on and off the pitch at Anfield. Boss, Jurgen Klopp, missed the game due to illness, but the Reds still seemed to be heading for an easy win when Adam Lallana put them 2-0 up on 70 minutes, following Roberto Firmino’s opener. However, after an estimated 10,000+ fans left the stadium early in protest at ticket prices, Sunderland struck back with late goals from Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe, to claim a valuable point in their battle against relegation.Staying at the bottom of the table, Aston Villa secured a crucial three points, with a 2-0 home win over Norwich, which dragged the Canaries into the relegation zone after Newcastle beat West Brom 2-0. In the day’s other games, Everton romped to a 3-0 win at Stoke, and Southampton edged out West Ham by a single goal.
