Euro 2016 qualifying: Holland fail to make it as Turkey seal spot

NULL

Holland won't be going to the European Championships in France next year. They lost 3-2 at home to the Czech Republic, and finished fourth in Group A in what was a night to forget for the 1988 European champions. Danny Blind's side went in at half-time 2-0 down after goals from Pavel Kaderabek and Josef Sural, but were given a glimmer of hope when Mark Suchy saw red towards the end of the half. Robin van Persie found the net 20 minutes into the second half - but it was the wrong one, with the striker heading past his own keeper. The Dutch did manage to pull goal back four minutes later through Klass-Jan Huntelaar, and van Persie made up for his error on 83 minutes, but couldn't complete a turnaround. Even if they had, it would've been in vain as a late goal gave Turkey a 1-0 victory over Iceland, securing their position in above the Dutch, as well as their place in France as the highest-ranked third-placed team in qualifying. Gokhan Tore was sent off dismissed in the 78th minute, but Selcuk Inan's last-minute strike saw them claim a dramatic win. Elsewhere, Wales ended their successful campaign by beating Andorra 2-0 with goals from Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale.
