Everton, Spurs share points and red cards in tense draw at Goodison Park

In a game that saw plenty of drama and controversy, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Monday night.

Tottenham, playing their first game under new interim manager Cristian Stellini after Antonio Conte's departure, appeared to be on their way to a crucial victory in their quest for Champions League qualification when Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot in the second half.

However, Everton, who had been reduced to 10 men after Abdoulaye Doucouré was sent off for a foolish shove on Kane, refused to give up and equalised in the dying minutes of the game through a stunning strike from centre-back Michael Keane.

The result lifted Spurs back into the top four, but it was a bitter pill to swallow for Stellini's side, who had taken the lead and had a man advantage. The draw also lifted Everton out of the relegation zone, although their position in the table remains precarious.

The game was marred by several contentious incidents, including Lucas Moura's red card for a reckless challenge on Keane, and Kane's theatrics that led to Doucouré's dismissal and chants of "cheater" across Goodison Park. 

Away from the action on the pitch, Everton fans protested against the club's board of directors before kick-off, while Spurs fans called for the departure of chairman Daniel Levy.

Despite the drama, the game was a frenetic and absorbing affair, with both sides creating plenty of chances. Jordan Pickford made several crucial saves for Everton, while Kane missed a gilt-edged opportunity to score a second goal.

The match was paused in the first half to allow players who are observing Ramadan to have a drink and something to eat.

Overall, it was a frustrating night for both Tottenham and Everton, who will both be looking to bounce back in their next Premier League fixtures.
