Fifteen-year-old Coco Gauff is through to the Australian Open second round after defeating seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams.

She defeated Williams, once again, after doing so at Wimbledon last year.

While the play was suspended on all outside courts because of heavy rain over Melbourne, Gauff secured 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 win in an hour and 37 minutes.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams defeated Russia's Anastasia Potapova 6-0 6-3, while third seed Naomi Osaka overthrew Marie Bouzkova 6-2 6-4.
