Jason Day is golf’s new world number one. The Australian has overtaken Rory McIlroy at the top of the sports world rankings, with victory in the BMW Championship in Chicago. The 27 year old carded a final round of 69, to finish on 22 under par for the tournament, six shots clear of Daniel Berger. McIlroy, meanwhile, finished tied for fourth on 14 under, after a final round of 70. The ascent to the top of the rankings caps a remarkable couple of months for Day, during which he’s won the RBC Canadian Open, The Barclays and the most recent major, the PGA Championship.
