McIlroy: 'More to Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship than just me and Jordan Spieth'

Rory McIlroy does not accept that this year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is simply a two-horse race between himself and Jordan Spieth. World No3 McIlroy goes head-to-head with the world No1 for the first time in 2016 this weekend, but is refusing to write off anyone from a hugely competitive field. "I don't just have to beat Jordan Spieth this week I have to beat another 142 guys," said McIlroy. "It would be foolish of me to think that's all my competition was and I think it would be an injustice to every other player in the field because there is so much talent. "If you forget about everyone else that can win the tournament it's not very smart." McIlroy, a four-time runner-up in Abu Dhabi, goes out alongside Spieth and world No6 Rickie Fowler in the first round on Thursday morning at 7.40am. Other big names in the field include two-time Major winner, Martin Kaymer, and world No6 Henrik Stenson.
