Phelan appointed as Manchester United assistant manager

Manchester United have a new assistant manager. 

Mike Phelan has been confirmed for the post on a three-year deal.

The 56-year-old previously served as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant from 2008 to 2013. 

He was a first-team coach since 2001.

Phelan returned to Old Trafford last year as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's backroom team.
