Rafael Nadal is safely through to the third round of the Rogers Cup.

He beat British number two Dan Evans in straight sets after a rain-disrupted match in Montreal.

The 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships winner will now face Guido Pella in the last 16.

Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem beat Canada's Denis Shapovalov in three sets to set-up a meeting with Croatia's Marin Cilic.

Elsewhere, Richard Gasquet upset Japanese fifth seed Kei Nishikori while 2018 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Roberto Bautista Agut got the better of Diego Schwartzman.
