Rain adds to on-court drama at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

It was another day of shocks at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, as the top four seeds all crashed out. Defending champion, Simona Halep, went down 7-6, 6-2 to Ana Ivanovic; second seed Garbine Muguruza, was beaten 7-6, 6-3 by Elina Svitolina; and Petra Kvitova, two-time Wimbledon champion, lost to Madison Brengle 0-6 7-6, 6-3. Meanwhile, Caroline Garcia eventually made it through to the quarter-finals after knocking out third seed, Carla Suarez Navarro. The 22-year-old was forced to wait almost four hours to conclude the tie after heavy rain halted play with her serving for the match. She held her nerve though and after the resumption needed just three minutes and 22 seconds to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
