US Open: Federer rallies again but Venus loses

Roger Federer has advanced to the third round of the US Open, beating Bosnian Damir Dzumhur 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

The 38-year-old third seed, who also dropped the first set against Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal in his opener, overcame a slow start to win the rain-affected match.

Japanese seventh seed Kei Nishikori has also progressed after eliminating American Bradley Klahn 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Meanwhile, two-time women’s champion Venus Williams has crashed out following a 4-6, 4-6 defeat to fifth seed Elina Svitolina.

Elsewhere, Czech third seed Karolina Pliskova ousted 202nd-ranked Georgian qualifier Mariam Bolkvadze 6-1, 6-4.
