Dubai adds 8 pedestrian bridges to push 2030 target to 31

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday added 8 pedestrian bridges to its 2030 target, taking the total number of bridges to be built under the 5-year plan to 31.

In September 2025, RTA had set the number of new bridges at 23. 

The bridges will expand across key locations including Sheikh Zayed Road, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, Al Ittihad Road and Omar bin Al Khattab Street.

Three bridges are currently under construction, starting with a 554-metre long Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at Tunis Street–Al Nahda intersection, linking Muhaisnah 1 with Al Twar and extending onwards to Al Mamzar Beach.

The second includes a 730-metre that crosses Dubai–Al Ain Road, linking Wadi Al Safa 4, known as Liwan, with Nad Hessa in Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Both projects are currently in their final stages of construction and will soon be available to the public. 

Meanwhile the third, set to be completed by 2027, includes a 44 metre long bridge located on Al Sukook Street, constructed as part of the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project.

The authority has recently completed two bridges on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, including cycling and e-scooter tracks that were added across Al Sufouh and Dubai Hills, extending through Dubai Internet City, Barsha Heights and Al Barsha. 

A third project was also built on Al Manara Street in Al Quoz Creative Zone to support pedestrians and cyclists in the area. 

The development project aims to improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian safety, and enable pedestrians and cyclists to crossroads safely.

"Pedestrian bridges and tunnels have played a significant role in enhancing traffic safety, with the pedestrian fatality rate falling from 9.5 deaths per 100,000 population in 2007 to 0.22 deaths in 2025, a decline of 98 per cent," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Roads and Transport Authority.
