Abu Dhabi has completed 12 digital disease registries designed to improve the early detection, prevention and treatment of some of the emirate's most significant health conditions.
Developed by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre and Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS), part of the M42 group, the registries will help track disease prevalence, identify health trends and pinpoint high-risk groups using real-time health data.
The fully automated registries cover priority health conditions including diabetes, cancer, obesity, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic respiratory disease, mental health, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis and rare diseases. They also support screening programmes and assisted reproductive therapy.
Officials say the system will help improve healthcare planning, strengthen disease prevention programmes and support earlier diagnosis and intervention across the emirate. The registries also provide researchers with valuable data to better understand disease patterns and develop more effective treatments.
The registries use data from Abu Dhabi's Malaffi Health Information Exchange and are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping public health policy and allocating healthcare resources.
The next phase of the project will see artificial intelligence integrated into the system through the Population Health Intelligence programme, alongside expanded datasets and integration with the Department of Health's Sahatna platform to improve digital health services.
Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said the completion of the registries marks another milestone in the emirate's move towards a more predictive and personalised healthcare system, supporting earlier intervention and better health outcomes for the community.
