A flexible health insurance option has been introduced for entrepreneurs and investors in Abu Dhabi.
It also targets expatriates working in the private sector with a monthly income of over AED 5,000.
The new policy has been launched by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED).
It covers the cost of treatment amounting to AED 150,000 annually and includes 100 per cent emergency coverage, 20 per cent co-payment for outpatient services and 30 per cent co-payment for medications.
Authorities said the scheme will be priced competitively and will offer the possibility of upgrading insurance coverage based on the patient’s needs.
The DoH indicated that companies or individuals wishing to subscribe to the 'flexible health insurance' policy must contact insurance companies when their current policy is about to expire.
"We have been keen to provide more insurance options that suit the various requirements of individuals while enhancing competitiveness between health insurance companies and healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi, which will reflect positively on the quality of health services and consequently the health and well-being of community members," said Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Healthcare Payers Sector at the DoH.
"The new policy will reduce costs on investors and talents in the private sector whilst providing a world-class healthcare experience with the flexibility to matchmake a healthcare package based on customer needs, geographical coverage and benefits," added Hala Khaled Al Ameri, Executive Director of the Competitiveness Office of Abu Dhabi at ADDED.
