Abu Dhabi's road toll system called 'Darb' will come into effect on January 2.
The emirate's Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has called on vehicle owners to register online and activate their accounts ahead of the toll scheme going live.
The accounts are to be activated via https://darb.itc.gov.ae or the Darb app.
'Darb’ will be in operation during peak hours on four bridges leading into Abu Dhabi (from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm).
A fee of AED 4 will be charged for each crossing, while it will be capped at AED 200 monthly for the first vehicle, AED 150 for the second vehicle, and AED 100 for each additional vehicle.
The monthly caps are not applicable to company vehicles.
People of determination, low-income citizens, as well as elderly and retired citizens, will be exempted from paying the charges.
Meanwhile, the categories of exempted vehicles include ambulances, public transport buses, public taxis licensed in Abu Dhabi, motorbikes, school buses permitted by ITC, civil defence and army vehicles, Police and Ministry of Interior vehicles, towed vehicles, as well as transport buses carrying more than 26 passengers.
