GEMS Education has said that the death of a pupil in the early hours of November 1 was not caused by meningitis or any communicable disease. That's after rumours circulated on social media suggesting meningitis could be the culprit. In a statement to ARN, the firm said it was deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Zoya Nafisa Shafin, who attended GEMS Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis. It added that representatives from the Dubai Health Authority have visited the school and confirmed that meningitis was not the culprit. Meanwhile the Knowledge and Human Development Authority has said it is working with concerned authorities and looking into health and safety concerns raised by parents and pupils in the said school.
