Dubai has launched a major digital archiving project aimed at preserving the emirate’s history and heritage.
Called 'Dubai Archive', the initiative will create an advanced system for managing documents, records and knowledge assets across government and semi-government entities.
Using artificial intelligence and international archiving standards, the system will enhance document preservation, retrieval and information security, while reducing the risk of records being lost or damaged.
The pilot phase is being led by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation in cooperation with several government entities, including Dubai Municipality, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Digital Dubai Authority, and Dubai Government Human Resources Department, alongside the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.
The Foundation has also partnered with technology company ONE ECM to develop and operate the advanced document management and archiving system.
Speaking at the launch, the Foundation's Chairman Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr described the project as a major shift in how Dubai manages and preserves knowledge, calling documents “a witness to history” and a key part of the emirate’s national memory.
It will support future planning and decision-making, while positioning Dubai as a global leader in digital knowledge and archive management.
