Dubai Municipality has completed the first stage of a major sewerage and stormwater network project in Al Quoz Creative Zone, one of the city’s busiest economic hubs.
This phase was delivered at a cost of AED 250 million, part of a wider AED 500 million investment.
The project is designed to create an integrated and sustainable drainage system serving Al Quoz Industrial Areas One through Four, as well as the area between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
In total, it covers around 1,600 hectares and more than 1,500 plots.
Phase One included the construction of sewerage and stormwater networks across 155 hectares. This involved laying 15 km of sewerage pipelines and 14 km of stormwater drainage lines, helping to strengthen Dubai’s long-term infrastructure capacity.
The development forms part of a broader, emirate-wide programme to modernise the sewerage system, alongside the AED 30 billion Tasreef initiative — set to become the region’s largest unified stormwater collection system and boost drainage capacity by up to 700 per cent over the next century.
Director General of Dubai Municipality, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, says the project will enhance infrastructure efficiency, support urban growth and reinforce Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainable city planning.
Officials add that the upgrades will improve rainwater drainage, reduce flooding risks and ensure smoother operations for businesses in Al Quoz, while strengthening the city’s readiness for future climate challenges.
