From April 15, Dubai Metro's Red Line will feature two direct routes linking Centrepoint station with UAE Exchange and Expo 2020 stations.
This will eliminate the need for commuters to switch trains at Jabal Ali station.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said that the Red Line will run on a Y-junction in a significant overhaul of its operating mechanism.
A Y-junction is an international terminology where trains will operate alternately, ensuring a seamless journey for passengers heading either to UAE Exchange or Expo 2020 station from Centrepoint station.
"Passengers would no longer need to interchange / swap at Jabal Ali station. Commuters travelling from Ibn Battuta station to UAE Exchange can now benefit from a direct journey, while those heading to Gardens - EXPO 2020 can conveniently board a train directly to their destination," said Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operation at the RTA.
"There will be additional staff deployed to guide and educate the passengers before and after the implementation for few weeks," he added.
Al Mutawa said the latest update would greatly reduce station crowds and waiting times, thereby improving passenger's experience.
Additionally, the initiative would result in energy savings because of the lower number of train kilometres, reduced power consumption during runs and less number of trains required to operate the new schedule.
