Dubai's Correctional and Penal Institutions have received accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA) and the organisation’s top Global Eagle Award, becoming the first in the region and only the third jurisdiction worldwide to receive the honour.
The achievement follows a comprehensive assessment, with Dubai’s correctional facilities recording 100 per cent compliance with international human rights standards.
ACA is the largest and oldest global organisation specialising in correctional establishments, established in 1870.
The recognition for Dubai reflects years of progress. The Central Correctional and Penal Institution first earned ACA accreditation in 2020 and renewed it in 2023.
That same year, the Women’s Correctional and Penal Institution became the first women’s correctional facility in the world to achieve full ACA compliance.
Most recently, the Misdemeanours and Minor Offences Institution also achieved a perfect score, securing the Global Eagle Award for Dubai.
Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri says the recognition reflects the force’s commitment to protecting human dignity, upholding human rights and delivering rehabilitation services that meet the highest international standards.
He also praised the teams whose work made the achievement possible.
