Thirty-seven beggars of various nationalities have been arrested in Dubai during the second week of Ramadan.
The arrests were carried out by the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police as part of the 'Combat Begging' campaign.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Suspicious Persons and Criminal Phenomena Department, said the campaign continues to achieve strong results, with begging cases declining steadily each year due to firm legal action.
He explained that beggars often exploit the spirit of compassion during Ramadan, using tactics such as involving children, the sick and people of determination to gain sympathy and collect money illegally.
He urged the public not to respond to such practices.
Dubai Police stressed that donations should be made only through official charitable organisations to ensure support reaches those in genuine need.
Members of the public can report begging by calling 901, using the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app, or reporting online begging through the 'e-Crime platform.
