Dubai Police have issued a renewed warning against sudden swerving on the roads, describing it as one of the leading causes of serious traffic accidents.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs, said abrupt lane changes remain among the most dangerous driving violations, often resulting in severe collisions, injuries, fatalities and significant property damage.
He explained that recent monitoring has shown several incidents where drivers changed lanes suddenly without checking blind spots or using indicators.
He noted that such behaviour gives other road users little time to react, especially on fast-moving roads, significantly increasing the risk of crashes.
Al Mazrouei added that sudden swerving can lead to side-impact collisions, loss of control, vehicle rollovers and multi-vehicle pile-ups.
He pointed out that some motorists engage in these risky manoeuvres after missing exits, attempting to overtake, or trying to switch into faster lanes.
However, he emphasised that these situations do not justify endangering lives, reminding drivers that arriving late is always better than not arriving at all.
Reiterating key road safety advice, he urged motorists to stay in their lanes, check the road is clear before changing direction, use indicators properly, maintain safe following distances and avoid making sudden decisions while driving.
Dubai Police are also urging the public to report dangerous driving by calling 901 or via the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police smart app, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance from all road users.
