Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a series of traffic improvement projects across 28 locations between July and September.
The upgrades are designed to improve traffic flow, boost road safety and strengthen connections between residential communities, schools and key development areas.
Most of the work is being carried out during the summer holidays to reduce disruption for motorists.
One of the most prominent projects is the expansion of Emirates Road, where two new lanes will be added along a five-kilometre stretch extending from the Emirate of Sharjah towards Al Amardi Street.
The RTA says the upgrade is expected to reduce peak-hour journey times by around 25 per cent.
Traffic improvements are also planned at the intersection of Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay, as well as Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area, and on Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road.
Road widening and intersection upgrades will also be carried out in residential areas to ease congestion and increase road capacity.
These include adding a new lane at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street, upgrading the right-turn movement on Ras Al Khor Road towards Dubai–Al Ain Road from one lane to two, and expanding a lane on Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4 before the entrance to the labour accommodation.
Ahead of the new school year, the RTA is also adding parking spaces and improving traffic access around the Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2 and Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif to help reduce congestion during drop-off and pick-up times.
The authority says the locations were selected using traffic data, field studies and public feedback to deliver quick and effective improvements across the city.
