Dubai's Indian, Pakistani schools show great improvement

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has released the inspection results of Indian and Pakistani curriculum schools in the emirate.

Seventy-three per cent of students attend Indian curriculum schools rated 'Good' or better, while the proportion of children attending 'Very Good' schools has increased to 42 per cent, up from 37 per cent in 2019-20.

For the first time, there are no Indian schools in Dubai evaluated as 'Weak'.

A total of 32 schools offering the Indian curriculum were inspected during the first full inspection cycle since the 2019-20 academic year.

Eleven were rated 'Acceptable', 10 as 'Good', another 10 as 'Very Good' and one as 'Outstanding'.

More than 6,000 students benefited from the improved ratings this year.

Six schools improved their rating compared to the 2019/2020 inspection cycle: two improved from 'Good' to 'Very Good'; three improved from 'Acceptable' to 'Good'; and one school moved from 'Weak' to 'Acceptable'.

Indian curriculum schools also showed marked improvement in English language attainment, with 84 per cent rated 'Good' or better compared to 75 per cent in 2019.

A total of 5,254 students of determination attend Indian schools in Dubai, and 85 per cent of them are enrolled in schools, which provide them a 'Good' or better quality of education, compared to 74 per cent in 2019-20.

Meanwhile, the two schools in Dubai offering the Pakistani curriculum were rated 'Acceptable', and they cater to a total of 2,754 students.

Both schools have at least 'Good' level of personal development, understanding of Islamic values and partnership with parents and the community.

However, the KHDA cited their quality of school self-evaluation, teaching and students’ progress are areas for development.

Wellbeing was included as a key focus area during the latest round of inspections. More than three-quarters (78 per cent) of schools were found to offer wellbeing provision that was rated high or very high.

Additionally, parents will now receive customised summary reports that will give them quick and accessible information on the aspects of school quality that matter most to them.

The parent summary reports include concise insights on wellbeing provision, quality of teaching and students’ learning, among others. The reports for each school are also available through the KHDA online directory.

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of KHDA said: “The improvement shown in this year’s inspection results are testament to the commitment of teachers and school leaders at Indian and Pakistani curriculum schools in Dubai. That more than three-quarters of schools were found to have high wellbeing provision speaks to the importance that schools and parents place on giving students a well-rounded education that prepares them for a healthy and prosperous future."
