Dubai's new 80km road corridor to boost inter-emirate connectivity

Dubai is moving ahead with a major new road project designed to strengthen the emirate’s transport network and improve connectivity with neighbouring emirates.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Crown Prince and the UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, has approved the implementation of the Fourth Corridor project.

The approximately 80 km route will extend from Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah, with the first phase valued at around AED 3.5 billion.

The project will feature a 12-lane corridor in both directions, along with 72 bridges, 17 tunnels and 45 stormwater drainage culverts.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to cut journey times by up to 60 per cent and accommodate as many as 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

It will serve more than 3.1 million people and provide connections to Al Maktoum International Airport and Etihad Rail.

The project will also support Dubai’s logistics and commercial transport sectors, further strengthening links across the UAE.
