A gang has been arrested in Dubai for defrauding several people on social media on the pretext of securing pilgrimage visas for reduced fee and quicker turnaround.
In a statement released on its official social media handles, Dubai Police said the gang targetted unsuspecting pilgrims with "low prices and easy payment plans".
According to the investigations, the gang posed as authorised visa agents for Umrah and Hajj online and claimed swift visa processing.
Once the payment was made via bank transfer, the victims’ contact numbers would be blocked and the scammer would disappear with the funds.
Dubai Police urged the public to secure pilgrimage visas only through licenced and authorised agencies within the UAE, and reminded them to exercise caution when offered "unrealistically cheap services" on social media.
They also called on the public to report any suspicious advertisements or activities through official channels.
