His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has marked the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces with a statement praising their role, sacrifices and five decades of service in defending the nation and upholding its pride.
He said the decision to unify the Armed Forces, issued in 1976, marked the beginning of building what he described as the nation’s shield and decisive force, safeguarding security and stability.
Sheikh Mohammed recalled the early foundations of the Armed Forces, including the first meeting of the Supreme Defence Council chaired by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, alongside the UAE’s founding leaders, noting their vision to build a modern, well-equipped army led by Emirati personnel.
He said that vision set the foundation for developing military capabilities, strengthening national cadres and establishing a defence structure capable of meeting future challenges.
His Highness said the Armed Forces have since evolved into a highly capable and modern institution, built on discipline, efficiency and loyalty, and now stand among the world’s most advanced military forces.
He added that under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has continued to invest in defence capabilities, advanced technologies and human development to ensure readiness and deterrence.
Sheikh Mohammed also praised the Armed Forces’ role in safeguarding national security, particularly in light of recent regional developments, saying they have remained a strong shield protecting the UAE and its stability.
He highlighted their humanitarian contributions and peacekeeping missions abroad, saying they reflect the UAE’s values of solidarity and global responsibility.
The speech also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Emirati martyrs, describing them as symbols of courage and devotion whose legacy will remain central to the nation’s history.
Sheikh Mohammed concluded that the Armed Forces remain a cornerstone of the UAE’s future, continuing to protect its achievements and support its journey of progress with strength, unity, and determination.
He later shared a message on social media platform X celebrating the efforts of the forces, adding that he "proud of our forces .. proud of our President .. proud of the Emirates".
