Two new marine bridges connecting Al Reem Island to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E12) have opened in Abu Dhabi, in a move aimed at easing congestion and cutting travel times.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) said the AED 450 million project is expected to handle up to 7,200 vehicles per hour and reduce peak journey times by around 60 percent, or up to 15 minutes.
The new route improves connections between Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island and the E12 highway towards Dubai, while also helping to ease traffic on Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street and Mina Road.
A dedicated freight U-turn bridge linking Zayed Port with Saadiyat Island has also been introduced to improve logistics and safety.
The bridges span around 1.5 kilometres and include an elevated roadway, pedestrian and cycling tracks, as well as street lighting and landscaped areas.
Officials said the project was designed to support traffic flow as the capital continues to grow.
