Nominations have opened for Dubai's inaugural Delivery Service Excellence Award, which honours delivery companies and riders.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Police General HQ announced that the nomination process, which kicked off on October 1, will run until November 30.
They have called on companies to participate in the award either by nominating the delivery firm itself or its drivers.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing traffic safety levels and improving the quality of customer service.
"The award is comprised of two categories. The first is for companies and aims to recognise the best two delivery companies as well as the best two delivery companies operating through smart platforms and applications. The other category is for Distinguished Drivers, which honours the best 100 drivers each year," explained Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency.
"It is through such awards and campaigns that delivery motorbike drivers are encouraged and motivated to comply with approved global health and safety standards and apply the best practices available in their field," added Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police.
The key criteria for selecting the best delivery companies include compliance with health, safety, environment and quality standards, abiding by the RTA’s requirements and top international practices, as well as committing to using advanced technologies and continuous training, and improving customer satisfaction rating.
The criteria for selecting the best drivers include a clean record in terms of complaints, offences and accidents in addition to a positive assessment of the employee’s performance.
Winners will be announced in the press and on social media.
The RTA and Dubai Police recently held an induction workshop at the Dubai Police Officers' Club to explain the significance of this award and encourage relevant companies to participate and support this vital sector.
The workshop was attended by delivery drivers, representatives of delivery services companies, as well as officials from the RTA and Dubai Police.

The RTA and the Dubai Police highlighted how the Covid-19 pandemic led to a surge in demand for delivery services, and the need to streamline the sector's operations.
In this regard, the RTA published a manual to regulate the delivery service activity.
It set the specifications and conditions for registering and licensing motorcycles and riders.
The RTA trained about 10,000 motorbike riders to familiarise them with the rules and regulations, especially observing the speed limits and avoiding driving in fast lanes.
