RTA Introduces two new bridges and a Tunnel to improve traffic flow

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has opened two main bridges and a tunnel, totaling 2325 meters in length, and capable of handling 27,200 vehicles per hour, as part of the Falcon Intersection development project. 

The project is located between Al Khaleej Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed and Al Ghubaiba Streets, and is part of the Shindagha Corridor development, which extends along Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street with a length of 13km. It aims to raise the capacity of Al-Khaleej and Al-Mina Streets, improve road efficiency and traffic safety, provide entrances and exits to Port Rashid, and increase parking spaces in area.

The completed works include the opening of two main bridges on Al Khaleej Street with a total length of 1825 meters, with a capacity of six lanes each and a capacity of 12,000 vehicles per hour in each direction. Additionally, a tunnel with a capacity of two lanes was opened for turning left from Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street to Al Mina Street, with a length of 500 meters and a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. 

The Roads and Transport Authority is currently completing the construction of the third bridge, the ramp bridge, with one lane for the right-turn movement from Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Street to Al-Khaleej Street, with a length of 250 meters and a capacity of up to 1,600 vehicles per hour. The project also includes a surface-controlled intersection with a light signal linking Al Khaleej Street with Al Ghubaiba Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, in addition to paving works, street lighting, traffic systems, rainwater drainage network, and irrigation systems. The project is expected to be completed in July.

The Shindagha Corridor development project, with a total cost estimated at AED 5.35 billion, is one of the largest projects currently being implemented by the Roads and Transport Authority. The project aims to serve around one million residents, reduce journey time from 104 minutes to 16 minutes by 2030, and save AED45 billion over 20 years. 

The first contract for the project's fourth phase has recently been awarded, and it includes the implementation of three bridges with a total length of 3.1 kilometers and a capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour for all lanes.
