Seven people have been sentenced to six months in prison and fined AED 50,000 for engaging in sorcery.
The defendants were referred to the court by the UAE Public Prosecution after it received a petition from a man who fell victim to the schemes of the defendants who claimed they could "heal people".
One of the suspects claimed there was a 400-year-old powerful 'jinn' inside him, while the other defendants also claimed they had a 'jinn' inside them that could treat people.
At the end of investigations, the seven defendants were referred to the court on charges of practising sorcery and deception, and possessing materials used for black magic.
The Public Prosecution emphasised that acts of deceit and sorcery are a crime punishable under Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021.
It also urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to sorcery.
