Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has announced that it is up to each school's principal to decide to switch to remote learning for up to two days.
The SPEA said that the move was in line with efforts to effectively manage the number of COVID-19 cases in the emirate.
"Following Circular No. 82 of 2020 regarding the procedures of dealing with COVID-19 cases in schools, SPEA would like to confirm that the principals of Sharjah private schools have the right to take the appropriate decision to shift to remote learning temporarily for a period of 48 hours (two school days)," it released in a statement.
"Please note that the distance learning option is available for parents until further notice," the statement continued.
Elsewhere in the UAE, all public schools under Ministry of Education curriculum have switched to remote learning for the first two weeks of term, as have Abu Dhabi and Umm al Quwain private schools, according to their education authorities.
Private schools' regulators in Dubai and Ras al Khaimah have allowed institutions to return to face-to-face teaching, while making distance learning options available to students with COVID symptoms.
