Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Massad Boulos, US President’s Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, during a working visit to Washington on Monday to discuss the Sudan civil war.
In the meeting, the need for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan was high on the agenda.
Sheikh Abdullah also praised President Donald Trump’s leadership efforts to prevent Sudan from descending into greater extremism, as well as the efforts of Boulos in strengthening the humanitarian response, contributing to the protection of civilians and advancing a political solution.
It comes after UAE's Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, called for a truce in Sudan during last week's Quad meeting in New York with representatives from the US, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, alongside the participation of the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The Quad initiative, led by the United States, consists of a comprehensive framework and platform advocating for an end to the Sudanese civil war.
Sheikh Abdullah and Boulos also reviewed the strategic relations between the UAE and US, to further enhance cooperation across various fields in support of their mutual interests and to reinforce security and stability at regional and international levels.
Later on, Sheikh Abdullah sat down with Ambassador Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, reviewing the UAE-US strategy in countering hate speech in all forms.
