The UAE has announced the details for the upcoming visa forgiveness initiative, which offers a two-month grace period, from September 1 until October 30, for those wishing to stabilise their visa status or depart the country.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) said the amnesty programme applies to numerous visa categories, including expired residencies and tourist visas, as well as for those without documents. However, those who illegally entered the country will be excluded from the programme.
Those adjusting their status can waive fines and fees, with an option to leave without a travel ban. A 14-day departure permit will be given for those wishing to leave the country; those who fail to depart within the given period will be subject to a reinstatement of fines and restrictions.
Family members whose sponsors have expired residencies can adjust their status without financial or legal penalties, and fingerprint centres will extend their operating hours until 10pm to accommodate demand.
The Philippine Embassy and Consulate in the UAE urged its citizens to take advantage of the programme to regularise their stay in the UAE or depart without legal consequences.
"The amnesty programme is a fresh start, providing expatriates with the chance to rectify their immigration status. For those unable to secure legitimate employment within the UAE, this program allows you to return to the Philippines with dignity and the option to re-enter the UAE in the future with the appropriate visa," a joint statement by the Philippine missions in the country said.
The last amnesty programme took place in August 2018, running until December after a two-month extension.
